Question Number: 28026League Specific 11/23/2013RE: competive Under 12 richard of citrus heights, ca, sacramento asks...how many referees are needed in league games? Do you need 1 referee and 2 assistant referees or will 2 man system work? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol USSF does not recognize a 2-ref system. The only approved method is the diagonal system of control, with 1 referee and 2 AR's (using club lines - someone affiliated with the teams - for either or both positions).

He makes all decisions realting to the game. He can be assisted by two assistant referees or if none are avaialble then two club linesmen will do ball in and out decisions.
