Question Number: 28125Law 4 - Players Equipment 1/20/2014RE: High School Gabe of Traskwood, Arkansas United States asks...I have indoor soccer shoes. Is it legal in high school soccer to play with them in a game. My school has a turf field and they work fine, I just want to know if it's legal to have shoes that aren't actual cleats. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Gabe The NFHS Rules state that 'suitable shoes'' must be worn. Many shoes manufacturers provide similar shoes without cleats and they are perfectly acceptable. The cleats are to provide grip on slippy surfaces. So it is up to the referee to decide what is suitable. My view is that as long as the shoes are not of a flimsy nature with no protection to the wearer there should be no problem.
