Question Number: 28189

Law 10 - Method of Scoring 2/18/2014

RE: competive College

gurtesh of faridkot, punjab india asks...

A player is taking free kick in his own half and he directly puts it into the goal of the opponent. Is it considered a goal?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Gurtesh
Yes this would be considered a goal if the free is direct. Once it is a direct free kick it makes no difference where the kick is from.

Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham

A goal can be scored directly from free kicks that arise from one of the ten direct free kick fouls (holding, pushing, kicking, tripping, charging, handling of the ball, spitting, jumping, striking, tackle) regardless of location. Some free kicks are indirect, and a goal may not be scored until the ball touches another player.
