Question Number: 28205Law 16 - Goal Kick 2/23/2014RE: Club College Bill Badger of Madison , WI asks...I'm a goalie, if I get mad at my team and shoot the ball in my goal during a goal kick, is it a goal for the other team? Law 16 suggests it's wouldn't be. Then what would it be? A corner? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Bill As the ball has to leave the penalty area for it to be in play the correct restart is a retake of the goal kick. Now some referees could determine that your tactic of kicking the ball into the goal is delaying the restart of play for which you could be cautioned. You certainly run that risk.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol The ball has to leave the penalty area to be in play, so it would be a retake of the goal kick. Watch your temper though. If the ref doesn't give you a caution for delaying the restart as Ref McHugh suggests, he's most certainly going to have his eye on you because he doesn't know where you're going to lash out next.
