RE: houseleague Under 10

Thenuri of Richmond Hill, Ontario canada asks...

hi i'm gonna be a ref in the summer and i am also playing for the first time in house league. I haven't done the exam or course yet but before that i wanna learn the basic rules first because i have never played before or i won't pass so can you tell me the basic stuff that i should know before the exam or course please? thanks

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Thenuri
The Laws of the Game booklet can be downloaded from here
http://www.fifa.com/aboutfifa/footballdevelopment/technicalsupport/refereeing/laws-of-the-game/index.html
That is the Law bible throughout the world and it will be used in Canada
Now here at this link below you will the basic course material delivered by the FA in 2007. Much of this is still current with a number of changes particularly on offside

The best advice I can give is that you need to attend a lot of game perhaps with someone knowledgeable on the Laws and focus in on the refereeing only. The web has a wealth of information that can be viewed.
Best of luck with it

Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham

The US Soccer Federation has an online referee course with 18 videos on the different laws of the game, and you can learn a lot from watching them.

The Grade 9 modules focus on recreational youth leagues.
