Question Number: 28413

Law 10 - Method of Scoring 5/11/2014

RE: amateur Adult

gaara of phoenix, mauritius asks...

is a goal counted if a kick in is deviated by the goal keeper into the net? the player who did the kick in was passing the ball but the goal keeper scored an own goal

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi
Not sure what you mean by a kick in. There would be no reason why a goal would not be allowed here if the ball was in play.
A team can not score directly on itself from any kicked restart or a throw in. However the touch by the goalkeeper changes that as it is not then directly.

Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham

If this is a small sided/field match, a 'kick-in' is indirect, meaning it must touch another player to score a goal. A deflection off the keeper (however inadvertent), however, qualifies.
