Question Number: 28866Mechanics 10/20/2014RE: rec Under 18 paul beevers of Bradford, uk asks...A ref booked my player twice but never shown him the red card at the match he said because he didnt show him a red he would put it though as a booking but has sent me a message after the game saying he has put it though as a red card is this correct Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Paul The referee was incorrect to say that he would only report it as a caution. However as there is probably reputational issues here I suspect that the referee had seconds thoughts and probably got advice from colleagues to report it as two cautions. The facts are that the player got two cautions and to report anything else is wrong.

The player received the two bookings and for the referee to report anything else would be unethical. Even though the player was not sent off, he still committed two cautionable offenses and the league should follow up with a suspension accordingly.

The referee should simply admit his mechanics and procedures were faulty but that the player in question was in fact cautioned for two separate incidents just never shown the red card or sent off! Heck Graham Poll showed a player 3 cautions in one WC game, so stuff happens, just have to man up when it does! Cheers
