Question Number: 29091

Kicks From The Penalty mark 1/10/2015

RE: competive Adult

Paul Tucker of Zeals, UK asks...

Can you use a different player in goal after 90 minutes for a penalty shoot out as long as the player was one of the 11 that finished the 90 minutes ? The ref was consulted before the shoot out commenced

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Paul
Yes the goalkeeper can be changed at any time during the game or in added time or Kick from the Penalty Mark provided the referee is informed and it is done at a stoppage in play.
In fact if a team has not used all its substitutions during the game and in added time an injured goalkeeper can be replaced in KFTPM.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Hi Paul,
YES!
The keeper can be changed at any time including PKS, EXTRA TIME or KFTPM by a player on the field provided the referee is informed and it is done at a stoppage in play.
The fact is unless the ROC state differently, if you have unlimited subs or have not used up all of your limited slots your keeper if injured, can be replaced by a substitute from the bench.

Only if the goalkeeper was to be sent off during the taking of kicks from the penalty mark, must he be replaced by a player who finished the match and IF a substitute opportunity still existed that player COULD be injured then a substitute keeper might still get into the match, there is a fine line between gamesmanship and plain cheating, and this would undoubtedly flirt with that line.
Cheers
