RE: grade 7 High School

Tom Hogan of concord, ca USA asks...

when walking on the field is ar 1 on the left or right side of the center referee

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Tom
It depends on what side the referee crew is coming on from. If ARs are running left backs then AR1 who will be on the technical area side will be on that side of the referee when standing in the centre circle and he goes to the final net check and his AR position.

Answer provided by Referee James Sowa

Tom,

If the referee crew is entering from the bench side, AR1 should be on the right. If the crew is entering opposite the benches then AR1 would be on the left. The AR should be on whatever side of the field they will be working.

Answer provided by Referee Joe Manjone

Tom,

The NFHS rules book does not specify the side of the referee for the AR during the walkout. However, having the AR stand on the side of the field that he/she will be working seems to make the most sense.
