Question Number: 29247Law 13 - Free Kicks 3/18/2015RE: Recreational Adult Stephen McNeill of Kentville, Nova Scotia Canada asks...On an indirect free kick that is shot on goal, does catching a few wisps of hair on a flapping ponytail or a brush of a flapping jersey constitute a touch thereby making a goal legal if it continues from there into the net? Yes the touch does not have to be significant. The challenge will be to identify if in fact the touch actually happened. So a brush of a jersey will look like a touch while the brush off long hair may be more difficult to determine.

The ...touch.... has to be ...identifiable... by the official in as seeing/hearing it. So if it skims off a body part be it the hair or a piece of excess jersey the referee must be in a position to say with certainty yes the ball did or no it did not. If I was uncertain then I likely go with no goal, as a goal is a big deal, and a wisp of hair is very little. Something to be said for a tucked in jersey and a crew cut. LOL
