Question Number: 29609League Specific 8/16/2015RE: u 12 Under 14 Michelle of gaylord , Michigan usa asks...How many players should be on the field I was told 11 counting goalie I have U10 to the age 13 on my team. So I'm pretty sure we are play u12 rules. Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Hi Michelle, your soccer association should have explained/designated whether you are playing in a regulation 11 a side league? Usually once you progress past u-12 you mention u-14 it seems likely you are going from a u-12 with 9 aside to 11 versus 11. http://www.ayso.org/AssetFactory.aspx?did=5719 AYSO has their regulations posted on their site as to normal standards! At u-14 they play 11 aside with 35 minute halves. Mind you who and under what program are you playing? 9 to 13 years old is a big age difference? Cheers

At Underage some Leagues organise small sided games which can be 7 or 9 a side on smaller fields. In our Leagues U10 play 5, 7 and 9 a side games depending on the field location. Under 12 can and do play 11 a side

Generally it's not a good idea to have players from age 10 to 13 playing together. Most leagues require that the team be registered at the oldest player's age, which means the team would be U14. I's surprised a league would approve a team with this wide an age span. The 10-year-olds would be crushed, literally and figuratively.
