This hasn't happened to me yet, but I've been reffing long enough that I figure it's just a matter of time.

If I have to dismiss a spectator from a game (let's say they were making abusive or profane comments), do I need to get the person's name for my match report? If so, how do I do that?

After the match, ask the coach or manager for the name of the spectator. If the coach or manager is unable or unwilling to provide the name, note the request and refusal in the match report. Include the details that you can: e.g. 'man in red shirt.' My experience is that the league will follow up and get the spectator's name.

Almost all leagues know that spectator conduct is adversely affecting the youth game, and want to take action against spectators (or clubs that fail to control them).

Just seek the clubs assistance in the matter. If they can't or are not willing to assist just report what you know and leave it to the competition organisers to deal with it. They will seek the information from the club

Hi Scott,
the league SHOULD have bylaws and protocol in place for a no abuse policy. Still the referee rarely has power to expel spectators but rather place shared responsibility on the coach to have a word or pass on the request to control the touchlines. No guarantee he or she will have 100% success but their cooperation and actions will be reported in the match report . You can abandon or terminate the match if an unruly spectator is creating an unsafe or abusive environment for the players or your support staff.
These incidents are rare as usually a formal request this stops or we do is a big club to swing.
