Question Number: 29923Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 11/15/2015RE: AYSO Under 15 Jeff Reiner of Kona, Hawaii USA asks...I recently made a non-penal call for 'playing in a dangerous manner' on the goalkeeper. The attacker was dribbling in the penalty area and the goalie dove for the ball and the attacker went flying over the goalie. The goalie gained possession of the ball. No one questioned the call, but I am wondering myself whether it was the correct call. Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Hi Jeff, < interesting? PIADM hmmm, it is kind of normal for keepers to be diving at balls inside their own PA when attempting a save given the use of hands. I be more inclined to see a PIADM OUTSIDE the PA for a keeper diving in at the feet of an attacker? Who was endangered? The keeper by putting his head into the feet or the attacker who would have got cleaned out had he not jumped out of the way?? There should be NO contact for a PIADM infraction? Obviously I think we would need to see this on a video or in real time to fully grasp who did what and when here? Stil if you say no one said boo?> Sounds like it was accepted? So did you award an INDFK and was there a caution for a reckless action or send off for DOGSO ? I will point out a recent link to a video look at the 2.38 mark http://footyroom.com/stoke-city-1-0-chelsea-2015-11/
Cheers

View Referee Richard Dawson profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Jeff The goalkeeper by diving at the feet of opponents has put himself in a dangerous position. Generally these only end up as a penal foul when the attacker making illegal contact with the goalkeeper as part of the challenge. If the attackers jumps over the goalkeeper there is no offence. So I cant really see a PIADM here with the exception that the attacker lunged at the goalkeeper as part of the challenge and there was no contact just that the action could have been dangerous to the player.
