Question Number: 30024Other 1/16/2016RE: Adult HENRY BONSALL of Barnoldswick, UK asks...I was in a discussion about scoring direct from a goal kick which you can now but I don't think you could in the 1950s am I correct Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Henry You are indeed correct. Up until 1996 it was not possible to score from a goal kick in the same way it was not possible to score direct from the kick off. Both are now possible

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol It changed in 1996 when the rewritten condensed Laws of the Game came out. I remember because that was when I first took the ref certification classes. I found a post on the FIFA website about a Scottish keeper who scored off a goal kick. He commented that he had moved from being a back to keeper, and he liked the position better because he scored more! When I showed it to my ref instructor he almost fell down laughing.
