Question Number: 30101Other 2/12/2016RE: Rec/Select Other Lacey Cooper of Temple, GA United States of America asks...I recently just took the grade 8 bridge course. With a grade 8 badge, i know i can now ref select teams, but can i ref for a high school? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol You would have to ask your state High School Athletic Association - see http://www.ghsa.net/ Generally the answer would be No. As I recall there were only 1 or 2 states that follow the Laws of the Game and thus use USSF referees (and that may be outdated). All other states use NHFS rules and have their own referee certification programs.

View Referee Gary Voshol profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe Manjone Lacey, You definitely can become a high school referee in both Georgia and Alabama (I see that Temple is located near the Alabama line). You do, however, have to apply separately in each state. Unfortunately, both states play soccer in the Spring and registration for officials for this spring is closed as the seasons are under way. Also, because both play in the spring, you most likely will want to referee in just one of the states so that you do not have conflicting schedules. To referee in Georgia, you need to apply to the GSOA. They have a Web site that gives all the information. It is: http://www.gsoa.net/join-gsoa.html To referee in Alabama, please contact the District Director for the district nearest your home. His name is Paul Stanton and you can reach him by email at gpoppi@yahoo.com Also, you can get information on officiating in Alabama by contacting, Greg Brewer, Alabama High School Athletic Association coordinator of officials. His email is gbrewer@ahsaa.com I wish you success in your officiating career.
