Question Number: 30103

Kicks From The Penalty mark 2/13/2016

RE: Intermediate Under 13

Phil of Tarzana, CA United States asks...

This question is a follow up to question 30100

I would agree with Referee Dawson. I do, however, remember a question on this site at http://www.asktheref.com/Soccer%20Rules/Question/25100/ where it was suggested that the referee abandon the game & report it. Apparently, there are some coaches that only care about 'winning'...whether by cheating or not.

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Phil
Yes that was an unusual question of a team getting all but its star kicker sent off. The advice that I gave in the original question is that after the first assault on the referee the game ends and we all go home. The LotG though do though allow for kicks to continue when a team goes below 7 players which can be for other reasons such as a combination of injuries, send off, players having to leave in exceptional circumstances. The League though once it understands why any untoward event was done will award the game to the opponents and the player/s are looking at a lengthy ban probably at least some 5 years for assault. We had a coach banned for life recently for an assault on a referee in an underage game. Thankfully I have never heard of such an event which would be unprecedented.
Hopefully the Law will be tidied up shortly with these other quirks eliminated.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

HI Phil,
hypothetical claptrap while fun to ponder though can you honestly see such a ruse as feasible? Could you imagine the ramifications of such conduct? Spit is a legal assault, criminal in fact! Civil suit, team fines, seasonal or even LIFETIME bans. While I like to think I am a reasonable guy, I can not say truly if I am neutral or proffesional enough to stand there with gob all over just so KFTPM can occur.
Cheers
