Question Number: 30308

Law 5 - The Referee 4/17/2016

RE: Competitive Under 13

Mike Nelson of River Heights, Utah USA asks...

What happens if my player passes the ball and then the ball hits the ref and then the ball goes out of bounds?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Mike
The referee is just part of the field of play. As the ball was last played by your player the restart is a throw in, goal kick or a corner kick to your opponents.
Referees do their best not to get struck by the ball yet it does happen.

Answer provided by Referee MrRef

Hello Mike,

teach your player to make better passes lol As Ref McHugh states we do not try to get in the way but it will occur on occasion as we are a moving field condition, the restart becomes a throw in or goal kick or corner kick to your opposition.

from our pitch to your pitch in the spirit of fairplay

Answer provided by Referee Jason Wright

Hi Mike,

Take the referee out of the equation - the referee is like a goal post.
So, it's a throw on (or Goal kick/corner kick as appropriate) to the opponents.
