Question Number: 30329Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 4/20/2016RE: Adult Dale longley of huddersfield, west yorkshire United Kingdom asks...if a defender with a false hand, takes it off and throws it at the ball which is going into the goal and tips it around the post. Whats the decision, indirect free kick or penalty and is it a caution or sending off ? Many Thanks Answer provided by Referee Jason Wright Hi Dale, Any object that is held or thrown becomes an extension of the arm (pun unintended!). So, the decision would be a penalty kick for deliberately handling the ball and a red card for Denying an Obvious Goalscoring Opportunity.

View Referee Jason Wright profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Dale A very rare offence. More likely that a water bottle or another object such as a boot / ball might be thrown. Anyway the answer is that it is deliberate handling as it is seen as an extension of the arm/ hand not matter what object is thrown. As the deliberate handling has denied a goal the player is sent off. The restart is a penalty kick.
