View Referee Jason Wright profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Shaji Good mechanics by the referee should prevent this happening. If however the kick is taken before the whistle signal by the referee the kick is retaken in all circumstances. I did watch a video on the internet recently of KFTPM and the referee did not appear to signal on any penalty? The reason the signal is required is that it prevents complaints by either side of not being ready although it can be more relevant to the goalkeeper than the kicker as the kicker has discretion as to when to start his run up. Referees should do their upmost to get the mechanics right. I signal as soon as the kicker steps back from the ball and I expect the GK to be ready at that time. If not I instruct the kicker to wait and I may move in towards the ball to stop the kick proceeding
