Question Number: 30339Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 4/24/2016RE: competive Adult c of cc, c cc asks...A oppenent took a shot from outside the 18 yard box. The keeper dove for it. As the keeper was about to make the save an oppenent ran and knocked him over. The ball went in and the goal stood. The ref claimed the keeper would not have save it and allowed for it to stand. But the keeper was really close to the ball and would of save it. How can the goal stand? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi
As described this should have been a foul to the defending team for a foul on the goalkeeper. It makes no difference whether the goalkeeper could have saved the ball or not. It is either a foul or not and the laws make no provision for what if. Obviously the attacker who fouled the goalkeeper attempted to influence subsequent play by his action.
