Question Number: 30453

League Specific 5/26/2016

RE: Adult

philemon booysen of Knysna, RSA asks...

citing rule 18.11.6 of SAFA competition rules and regulation. I would like to know the proper and correct application of this rule. my team won both home and away league fixtures against a team called Liverpool.
Close to the end of the season liver pool gets expelled from the league for not honouring more than 5 games. The league wants now to deduct the 6 points we won against Liverpool citing rule 18.11.6
please advice this is very confusing

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi
Generally when a team is expelled / excluded from a league / competition all results involved the team are declared null and void. When that happens no team is at an advantage / disadvantage with the possible exception of disciplinary action taken against players involved in those games.
In this case it is the same as this SAFA Rule 18.11.6 recommends to the Competitions Committee the cancellation/expulsion or suspension of a team from the League for any period. In this case, all results involving the expelled team will be expunged from The League as if the team had never played any matches.
So pretty straightforward. All the game results including your teams involving this club are expunged from the league table. It is only of benefit to those teams that lost points playing that team yet so be it. No other way of sorting it.
