New kick off rule - can the person kicking off shoot before one of his own players touches the ball?

Hi Nigel
A goal can be scored directly from a kick off and that has been the way for a considerable number of years since 1997 in fact. The amendment that it can be kicked backwards came into effect on the 1st June. A team cannot score on itself from the kick off.
