Question Number: 30568League Specific 7/4/2016RE: Intermediate Under 13 Phil of Tarzana, CA United States asks...This question is a follow up to question 30562 In AYSO, for U10 (& possibly U12), there is a 'no slaughter rule'. Depending upon the age, if a team was up by 3 goals at the youngest ages (5 at slightly older ages), the team would either put their stronger players on defense (there are no substitutions, since everyone plays an equal time, if possible) or tell their players to practice passing, with no shots on goal. However, there is no real remedy for a 'violation' of that rule. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Phil Thanks for the input

But I'd guess that somewhere some well-meaning but mis-informed AYSO league has tried to implement a 'mercy rule'. Just as USYS and other affiliated leagues have made unsanctioned modifications to the Laws.
