Question Number: 30586

Law 14 - Penalty kick 7/10/2016

RE: Sunday league Under 19

MICHAEL WHITE of London, - United Kingdom asks...

In the event of a penalty having to be retaken, can a different player be selected to take the subsequent penalty?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Michael
Yes that is acceptable. The retake is deemed to be a new penalty and a new player can be nominated to take the kick.
The only thing that cannot happen is that a kicker is nominated and a team mate rushes forward to take the kick in his stead

Answer provided by Referee Jason Wright

Hi Michael,

That can certainly happen. The team may even bring on a substitute to take the kick (provided there are substitutes remaining). Even the goalkeeper can be changed.
