Question Number: 30726Law 11 - Offside 9/7/2016RE: competitive Adult K Butler of Chicago, Illinois United States asks...This question is a follow up to question 30721 thanks for the citation by Joe McHugh to the UEFA guidelines. Referee Peter Grove makes reference to guidelines from FIFA. Can you please tell me the source of these guidelines? If they are published, I'd like to refer others to the source. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Most of this material all have the same origin which is FIFA / IFAB. IFAB the law maker tries to ensure that any interpretations by member associations are in line with the Laws hence they all tend yo be similar. Here is FIFA material provided to UEFA http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/resources/documents/RefereeEducation/Amendments/Law%2011%20-%20Offside.pdf In addition this material is constantly being updated http://static-3eb8.kxcdn.com/documents/72/Circular_LoG_Additional%20Guidance%20on%20Law%2011_v2.0_EN.pdf Have a look at these scenario which are FIFA videos http://garcia-aranda.com/offsideifab/eng004video007.html The Red defender has attempted to play the ball but it has deflected off him to the PIOP. Now compare that to this http://garcia-aranda.com/offsideifab/eng004video008.html In this situation the defender has played the ball not deflected it and as a result offside has been reset. There is a fine line between both scenarios. We hope all that helps
