Question Number: 30800

Law 3 - Number of Players 9/22/2016

RE: select Adult

steve brown of tottenham, ontario canada asks...

where is the restart position after a caution has been given to a goal tender who has been found to be substituted without the permission / knowlege of the referee.

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Steve
The referee is advised to wait until the next natural stoppage to deal with the caution. After the matter is dealt with the game restarts with the reason play was stopped which could be a throw in, goal kick, corner kick etc.

Answer provided by Referee Peter Grove

Hi Steve,

In case it helps, the actual wording in the Laws is:

''If a player changes places with the goalkeeper without the referee's permission, the referee:
• allows play to continue
• cautions both players when the ball is next out of play''

This being the case, as Ref McHugh states, the restart would be according to the reason that the ball is no longer in play.
