Question Number: 30805

Law 13 - Free Kicks 9/23/2016

RE: Adult

Haji Hussain Jan of Muscat, Muscat Oman asks...

If a in corner arc or on the line of corner arc. Position of free kick can be inside arc?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Haji
The position of the free kick is taken from where the offence took place. When the offence takes place in the arc such as a double touch in the arc then the free kick is in the arc.
Offences though rarely if ever happen in the arc so the free kick gets taken close to the corner. It is not a issue if the free kick gets taken close to the location of the offence.

Answer provided by Referee Jason Wright

Hi Haji,
The corner arc only exists to mark the position for a corner kick. Beyond that, pretend it doesn't exist. So a free kick does get taken from anywhere inside the arc like a corner kick would - it must be taken from the location of the offence
