Question Number: 30852Law 13 - Free Kicks 10/3/2016RE: ALL Adult Bob of Melbourne, Australia asks...From an Indirect free kick, the ball is kicked, hits a defender, and then enters the goal.
I assume this is a goal !
Answer provided by Referee Peter Grove Yes, this is a legitimate goal. The Laws of the Game give the following definition:
''Indirect free kick
A free kick from which a goal can only be scored if another player (of any team) touches the ball after it has been kicked''

Indirect means that it must touch another player for a goal to be scored. As it touched an opponent who is another player the goal is good.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Absolutely. There's nothing that says which team makes the 2nd touch to remove the 'indirectness'. Once it touches a second player from either team, a goal can be scored.
