Question Number: 30969Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 10/28/2016RE: Rec Under 12 George of Parangarecutirimicuaro, CA Sacratomato asks...This question is a follow up to question 30962 If in this same scenario, had the handball by green player been intentional, do we revert to a handball instead of a TI? Red has aclear advantage when the ball lands in front of him but he gives up on play to demand a whistle. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi George Probably likely that the referee will go with deliberate handling if that did happen. Did not read like there was an advantage that was truly present. It happens quite a bit on appeals where the focus on on the offence rather than playing on.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Depends on what the player did with the potential advantage. If as in your prior question the player just stopped playing - as our friend Jim Allen used to say, he's had his advantage and he squandered it. If the advantage turns out to not be an advantage at all, because something comes up that the ref didn't expect, then the ref can call play back for the foul. Your prior question was about a possible handling call outside the penalty area. Inside the area, the stakes change. Unless a goal is about to be imminently scored, you should call the foul. A PK is a better advantage than almost any other scenario, except for the ball in the net.

WAS there a true advantage? Everybody milling about looking dumbfounded possibly not,, so call the foul . If you do your part in selling HEY I SAW that BUT I am applying and signalling ADVANTAGE so PLAY ON! They will learn and so to will you as to when and where and why you choose a course of action to benefit the match. Cheers
