Question Number: 30971Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 10/29/2016RE: 8 Adult Nick of Hassocks, West Sussex UK asks...From a drop goal kick (From the keepers hands) if the goalkeeper kicks the ball but it's miss-kicked, goes up in the air and then he kicks it again, is that a foul? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Nick Absolutely not. It is the same as throwing the ball down and playing the ball with multiple kicks. It is only an offence should the goalkeeper uses his hands to catch or play the ball after releasing it from his possession.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Hi Nick, there is no foul for a continuous kick off a normal ball in play punt release, only a restart has a double touch violation. What MIGHT occur is after a 6 second hand possession the punt/kick is miskicked and the ball is recaught with the hands as a handling violation of an INDFK. If he simply whiffs the kick after tossing it we likely count the ball as a bounce rather then nail him for a release and retouch by hands. That though is a referee opinion option not a certainty. But there is no foul to rekick a ball that the keeper has already kicked. The restriction is usually based on the keeper's illegal use of hands inside the PA. ANY outgoing free kick restart that occurs from within the defensive PA the ball must clear the PA boundary lines into the FOP before anyone can play/touch the ball and who ever takes that free kick must wait until that ball is played by 1 of the other 21 players on the field
