Question Number: 31001Other 11/6/2016RE: Provincial Daniel Wybo of London, Ontario Canada asks...Can you please go over the new Law changes for 2016 2017 with examples Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi I would suggest that you go to wwwtheifab.com and review the up to date laws and the changes to the Laws on the site. If you need particular clarification or advice on the implementation on some individual law please ask and we would be happy to assist. Going through almost 100 changes is not viable particularly when IFAB has a section dedicated to this as outlined by Referee Dawson.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Peter Grove Hi Daniel, There are, according to the stats I have seen, some 95 separate law changes in the 2016-17 Laws (and that does not include the literally hundreds of wording changes). Time and space would hardly allow us to list them all, let alone give examples. However, there are specific sections of the new Laws that list and explain all the changes. You will find a summary of the changes on pages 111-114 and detailed explanations on pages 116-157 of the 2016-17 Laws document. You can also download a separate .pdf file containing just the changes from the IFAB website at: http://static-3eb8.kxcdn.com/assets/documents/IFAB_laws_of_the_game_changes.pdf

While it crucial you seek advice and look to expand your experience, as an official you need to read the LOTG, just like any text book and study! If you read the Q&As on our site you will find thousands of examples of how the LOTG can be interpreted, applied or taught! Read, find local mentors and discuss with your peers and colleagues and when a situation arises give us a call to help iron out the idiosyncrasies or explain the nuances and behind the scene tidbits, for managing difficult situations. The LOTG are really fairly straight forward, it is in their application where we dabble in the arts and sciences! Cheers
