Question Number: 31107Law 11 - Offside 12/12/2016RE: Rec Under 12 Jordan of SHEFFIELD, United Kingdom asks...Hi If a keeper saves a shot onto the post and another striker (who was in an offside position prior to the shot) follows up the rebound and scores should the goal stand ? I ask as this happened at the weekend and the referee didn't give it (luckily for us) Answer provided by Referee Peter Grove Hi Jordan, A save and/or a rebound off the frame of the goal (either singly or in combination) do not reset offside. If the player who followed up was offside at the time of the original shot and subsequently touches the ball, he has committed an offside offence under the category of 'gaining an advantage.' So the goal should not stand and the referee in this instance was correct.

The referee understands law 11, that the striker gained an advantage and as such is punished with a loss of possession on an INDFK out for doing what the LOTG say he can not! Cheers.

The player has gained an advantage by being in offside position which is one of the ways that offside can be called. See questions #31063 and #31106 which pose similar situations.
