View Referee Richard Dawson profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Gary My view on these is that the first one is certainly a foul and a penalty whereas the second one is not a foul. In the first one the defender has his arms around the attacker and it looks like a pull to the ground. On the second one the defender plays the ball albeit awkwardly and then there is a coming together. That awakard play of the ball by the defender would have looked very suspect in real time so I could see why a penalty was awarded.
