Question Number: 31340Law 3 - The Players 3/12/2017RE: Other Alan Dowell of Huntington Beach, CA USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 31177 Just a simple correction.
Player may only re-enter after play has restarted; if the ball is in play, re-entry must be from touchline, but if ball is out of play can be any boundary line. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Alan
You are indeed correct and the answer updated. The focus was on the exit point of the player not the re entry.
The better practise though is to try to use the touch line as the re entry location as then the ball does not have to be out of play to allow re entry. Refusing a player re entry from the goal line waiting for the ball to go out of play can cause problems.
The vast majority of times players will use the sideline to re enter and causes the least problems for the game.
