Question Number: 31741Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 8/28/2017RE: club Under 14 Harley Goldman of Melbourne, Victoria Australia asks...The following items are all misconduct offences which result in a CAUTION (yellow card) or a SEND OFF (red card). Pick the letters next to the offences which result in a SEND OFF: A) Delaying the restart of play B) Deliberately leaving the field of play without the referees permission C) Denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the players goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or penalty kick D) Denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area) E) Dissent by word or action F) Entering or re-entering the field of play without the referees permission G) Receiving a second caution in the same match I chose C, D and G as the rest are all results for a yellow card yet it says I'm wrong. I have tried a few different combinations and i still can't get it. Can you please help? Thanks, Harley Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson HI Harley, at first I thought your choice was fine but perhaps the choice of C is now tempered with if it occurs inside the PA and a PK is awarded it is NOW only a yellow card? Cheers

View Referee Richard Dawson profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Harley Maybe the following will help A, B, E and F are all cautions D and G are certainly sending offs while C can be a sending off yet not in all cases. Inside TD penalty area on a genuine attempt to play the ball it is a caution. The same foul outside the penalty area is a red card. So the answer might be D and G only. If that is correct it is poorly worded question

For an offence outside the penalty area it is a definite red card. However, inside the same area, if the referee is of the opinion that the offence was a genuine attempt to play the ball, it is only a yellow card ( and a penalty).
