Thank you for your responses. I would like to clarify that when it comes to players getting angry at me about, say, thinking a player on the opposing team is doing too much and should get a card, that I do not just ignore, those kinds of dissent that can possibly lead to retribution if they feel I will not defend them.

The types of dissent I ignore are the typical crabbiness from players/coaches wanting a call here or there, or a player/coach getting upset if I call/don't call offside, or even things like 'are you blind' unless it is a direct attack at me, just like when determining to send off a player for verbally abusive language if it is directed at a person vs just out loud

Thanks for the clarification. As you rightly point out there is a world of difference between dissent and crabbiness. The latter we know goes with the territory from time to time and we blank it out.
Dissent on the other hand must be dealt with.
