Question Number: 31951

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 10/28/2017

RE: Adult

Patrick Murtagh of Eastchester, New York USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 31944

Gentlemen

Well answered by all I did not have Video Joe And I should have said their was very minimal contact. Our attacker said the foot struck her but ref saw no injury and did not think the boot struck her head. The ref Gave an IDFK and moved the ball away from the 6 yard box. I thought is should have been a penalty but based on your responses and experience I now believe that he made the correct call. The ronaldo situation was very similar.
Thanks Joe and Richard for a very well worded Answer. Meath Man In New York Joe with too many Dubber Friends...

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

HI Patrick,
we are glad to assist in your understanding but what do you mean the referee moved it AWAY from the 6 yard box? If the high kick was INSIDE the goal area the restart must be on the the 6 yard goal line parallel to the goal line as the restart point is a straight line back until it meets the 6 yard line that parallels the actual goal line. The closest any INDFK can occur to goal is 6 yards away . Otherwise the INDFK occurs from where it was anywhere else in or outside the PA?
Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Patrick
Good to hear from a Meath man in Eastchester NY.
A penalty is always a big call in any game and if the referee has any doubt on PIADM then the best call can be the IDFK which does not require any contact to be called. Ronaldo one was case in point. Could the referee say for sure that there was contact? Decisions made on reactions are never reliable. Anyway glad to be of assistance.
Did not think that Meath Murtagh people could have Dub friends lol
