Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 10/30/2017

RE: Competitive Under 19

Sal Flores of Ligonier, Indiana United States asks...

Question 1: I have a question about this kind of play. The referee called a foul, but should the referee give a red card for the attacking player kicking the defender even the attacking player never saw the defender coming?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Sal
I think your question may refer to a kick by an Americas player into the Necaxa opponents back.
To me it looked like it was accidental with the ball kicked and his momentum in the follow through making contact with the players back. The player did his best in my opinion to pull out of the kick. There certainly was no intent or excessive force used so no red card for me.
