I question the award of a corner in the Newcastle v Manchester City EPL match.

Newcastle were awarded a corner following one of their rare attacks on goal.

A fantastic bit of football from both teams starting with the beautifully crafted shot from United, followed by the 'we are going to be undefeated' goal line stop from City.

But should there have been a DFK to City for the charge from the United player on the City defender.

Hard to say from the televised angle if the ball had crossed the goal line before the charge.

your link does not work here. Not sure what incident you refer to? The shot at 23.30 where the shooter was bowled over? The Yellow card at 75:00 for the dive was spot on!

There was advice given once by a Pro referee who said that referees should not mirror nor take stock of incidents in Pro games as advice as it is different in regards from the grassroots game.
I watched a number of similar incidents recently in other PL games and I recall one similar incident right in front of the AR in the corner and he flagged for a goal kick. To me it was a certain foul as the attacker who was trying to shield the ball was he was clearly barged by the defender from the rear. Now I believe that in the Pro game the level of contact does have a higher tolerance level in some situations particularly on shielding on the goal line and perhaps there is a more cynical approach to contact where the players *feels* the contact and go down looking for a free kick.
Again without seeing the video due to country viewing restrictions I suspect it could easily have been a foul yet it was 'ignored' as either a player looking for a foul or the referee allowing a higher level of contact on shielding on the goal line.
We have all a personal judgement on these and in many ways that should be formed by our experiences in games rather than by what we see on TV.
