Question Number: 32183

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 1/21/2018

RE: Adult

John Fellows of Dudley, England asks...

If a player is fouled and needs the Physio. And the player who commited the foul is booked , does that mean the fouled player dose not have to leave the field after treatment .

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi John
Yes that is correct. That is one of the new Laws changes that tries to introduce fairness in decisions. A team that commits a yellow card offence should not be benefitted with a removal of an opponent.
Now it does not mean that the game is held up indefinitely for the injury treatment and if it is clear that the player is not going to return swiftly play must continue.

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

HI John, the fairness concept was to prevent a team who suffered the foul/ coupled with yellow card cautionable misconduct by the opposition should not have to play down a man due to the illegal actions by the opponent.
Cheers
