Question Number: 33223Law 11 - Offside 4/7/2019RE: Other Peter J Murray of Sturminster Newton, Dorset United Kingdom asks...During Arsenal's game at Everton today Jagielka was standing in an offside position by the Arsenal's goal line. A long throw in was taken and Jagielka moved into the play to head the ball over his head and subsequently scored a goal. Why was offside not given???? Please take a look at the VT. It s readily available. 101267 Answer provided by Referee Peter Grove Hi Peter, This is not an offside offence because, as Law 11- Offside, states: ''There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from [...] a throw-in''

View Referee Peter Grove profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Peter There was no possibility of offside here as a player CANNOT be offside directly from a throw in. When play moved on in the next phase of play Jagielka had moved to an onside position so when the ball came back to him he was being played onside by an Arsenal defender. So 100% correct decision by the officials.

As described by my colleagues a throw in is one of the three, the other two are goal kicks and corner kicks. 3. No offence There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from: • a goal kick • a throw-in • a corner kick Cheers
