Question Number: 33350

League Specific 5/15/2019

RE: Rec Adult

Jim of Hollywood, MD USA asks...

We have issued a red card and informed the player that they are suspended for next weeks game.

The game was postponed due to weather.

Is the player to sit the next available game or can he claim that he sat the one week and that it was not his problem that the game did not take place?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Jim
As his team has not played a game therefore the player has not served his suspension so he cannot play until that happens. It makes no difference that the game was postponed. Match suspension are expressed in games not time.

Answer provided by Referee Peter Grove

Hi Jim,
A suspension is usually expressed in terms of a number of games and does not refer to any specific game being played on any specific date. So if a player is suspended from playing in his team's next game, it doesn't matter if a particular scheduled game was postponed, the player must still miss the next game the team actually plays.
