This question is a follow up to question 33575

1000% agree with Matt - It's a warm and fuzzy feeling when you can connect a part of your match (mental or physical) with something learnt from this site.

Also - Ref Dawson unleashed his favourite line for the first time in a while ...'your match, your decision, your reputation'.

I love that line.

For myself at least " it just pushes me to be the best I can be, so the game gets 'what the game would want'.

Hi Russell,
it has been an honour over these past few years to have your contributions to the site but it is in your attitude and comprehension that distinguishes you from those that study and those that learn. JASON and I met over the internet on Julian Carosi's referee UK site and the Aus ref sites . We shared our thoughts and our passion on the game and it led to him being a panel member here. Life offers us choices about what journey we might take perhaps that we are all captains of our own boat and the difficulty is figuring out what sort of boat are we in command of and just who our mates are. Selfishness is our self interest but it is not devoid of integrity or compassion or empathy it sometimes simply we like what we like and we enjoy sharing what we like. For what it is worth welcome aboard the referee Ark mate.

Comments like this really mean a lot to the panel - it's great to hear of the impact that this site has. And as you say, it's not just about practical aspects - when you deliberately work on an aspect of your game and you see that improving, it just feels absolutely amazing. It's a real confidence booster.

We're all constantly growing as referees - and even after a long time refereeing, I would still experiment with different ways to approach a game, to talk to players, all sorts of things. What worked for me 2 years ago may not work as well for me now - and perhaps what I tried 3 years ago and didn't work, would actually work now!

I always love it when I know people are working hard to be the best referee they can be - reflecting upon your games and improving.

And for me personally, I've learned some incredibly meaningful and valuable life lessons through my time on the field.
