Question Number: 33966Law 16 - The Goal Kick 7/26/2020RE: Professional Hussain jan Gramkani of muscat, Oman asks...according to new goal kick rule a ball is in play when it clearly moves and doesnt need to leave the penalty area, if a goalkick is kicked and before leaving the Penalty area strong wind brings it back in goalpost? what will be a restart? Corner K or goal K?? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Hussain
The restart will be a corner kick as the ball is in play when it is kicked and moved yet a team cannot score directly on itself from any restart.

While the ball is in play as it is kicked and moves the LOTG still do not allow a player to kick the ball directly into their own goal on any restart. The result is a corner kick if the ball directly enters the goal or crosses over the goal line and if outside the touchline a throw in. A simple loss of possession.
