Question Number: 893 RE: Rec Under 10 KVW of , asks...Could you please tell me? if a player is in the offside.position, and the ball is not played up to her/him, but.rather shot on goal, would the flag go up. Answer provided by Referee miller Unless the player in the offside position is interfering with play, interfering with an opponent, or gaining an advantage by being where she is, the flag should stay down. The answer to these questions is always in the opinion of the center and assistant referees.

View Referee miller profileAnswer provided by Referee hoare It is not an offence to be just standing in an offside position.the player must be either seeking to gain an advantage and/or.interfering with play. In your question if the shot on goal goes into the net then the goal would stand. If however say the ball struck the post and rebounded to the off side player then and only then would he/she be deemed to be offside and had gained an advantage by being so.
