Question Number: 1343Law 11 - Offside RE: competitive travel Under 13 mike purcell of riverside, nj usa asks...Ihave recieved conflicting answers from different sites and refs. A striker is off to the left side of the goal past the second to the last defender and the attacking striker who has the ball is coming in from the right side. The goalie glances over at the player on the left as the striker on the right shoots a goal. Is there an offside call if the ball is not played to the player on the left even if it was obvious that the goalie was distracted by the player on the left. .Thanks, Mike Purcell Answer provided by Referee miller This question keeps coming up over and over. Unless the player in the offside position was close enough to the keeper so as to impede his vision, impede his movement, or yelled to distract the keeper, there is NO offside violation. The keeper has no business keeping his eye on anything but the ball. By penalizing for offside in this situation you have indemnified the keeper for poor play.
