This question is a follow up to question 13437

In reference to the shape of the corner flags, i always thought that it in England this was to show whether a team had ever won the FA cup?

IE: If you have ever won the FA cup you are allowed to display triangle corner flags?

That's as good an explanation as I have heard but it falls short outside of England. How does one explain triangular flags on a ground in Uzbekistan or Tahiti?
