Question Number: 14701

Character, Attitude and Control 1/16/2007

RE: Adult

KOUTSIAFTIS ARISTOMENIS of Arta, Arta greece asks...

This question is a follow up to question 4297

Dear Ref,
I am a referee in 3rd championship of Greece and in one of my games a very difficult situation occured. In 84' one of the teams won a penalty, the players of the other team came right to me argueing about my decision, that time one player of this team hit hard with his hand a player of the other team,I saw him red card. After that all the players of both teams start boxing and kicking each other, the field became a big ring.A few funs got into the field moving against us and against players.I with my linesmen run to the referee room.I stopped the game definitly and I wrote the game sheet the following: "In 84'...I saw him red card. After that all the players including the players in both benches start boxing and kicking each other.A few funs...to the referee room.According to the laws of the game I stopped the game definitly,in that time the score was 0-0 between the two teams".
Was my actions correct, should I do anything else? Thank you in advance and I am sorry for my english.
PS.There wasn't fourth official in the game.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

The game, for whatever reason, was no longer under control and you and your crew were in danger of being injured. Your actions were proper. Write a thourough report including a much detail and specifics as you are able and let the governing authority sort it out

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Run and hide is always better than stand and die. It is just a football match in the end. Write the report and let the league deal with them.

Regards,
