Question Number: 15904

Kicks From The Penalty mark 6/27/2007

RE: Rec/Comp. - Youth Other

Philip of Houston, TX USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 15881

Does the same player have to take a re-kick when doing KFTPM? Since there was no result initially isn't any re-kick the same players to take? Maybe this is one of the nothing stated in the LOTG so nothing preventing it.

Cheers,
Philip

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

NO the same player does not have to take a retake as long as the player taking the retake is not prohibited by virtue of having completed a pk already.
The deal is every available player must EACH have one COMPLETE PK turn with a miss or goal result. A retake means that first crack is not completed thus that pk kicker must still have a turn at some point before any team mate shoots twice
Once all players have had a go they do NOT have to follow the same order .I have taken the 1 st pk and then taken the 17 th pk in a pk round of 21 pk opportunities before a result was succesfully concluded with 2 retakes as well.

Try this on for a look
I take the 1st pk and score and after the first five shots we are tied 4 goals apiece after the next 6 teammates have their PK sudden death shots we are tied at 8 goals both teams missed 9 and 11. The next two pks 12 and 13 were converted by both teams. On our 14th pk shot we missed but were awarded a retake due to the keeper way off his line instead of of our kicker retaking he backed out as this was his second miss as he had missed in the first five and felt pressured another team mate offered to take it and scored. Now both teams score up until the 17 th when I step up and miss. The opposing team missed their chance but the referee awards them another saying our keeper was off his line and they missed the second chance taken by the same pk kicker. We were so lucky err I was so lucky. Both teams scored up until pk 20 when we made the 21st and our keeper stopped their shot (final score 17 to 16 or 4 saves to five saves

Cheers

A few months ago I saw a 40 rounder in the NCAA DIII round of 16 - quite a crazy ending!

Anyway - as far as the laws of the game go I agree with Ref Dawson above. His answer seems to me to be beyond reproach.
