Question Number: 18041Mechanics 12/1/2007RE: Adult Melvin Hagerman of Colorado Springs, Colorado U.S.A. asks...This question is a follow up to question 3234 So, with those green and red signs used for substitutions (where there are no electronic signs), I noticed that they only go up to about number 23 or 25. I do know in MLS and in college games there are players who wear higher numbers, or numbers "0" or "00" on their jerseys. How does or should the fourth official indicate, for example, that player wearing number "99" for DC United is the player to come off (or come on) instead of player number "9", or player "0"/"00" is the player entering or leaving, if the fourth official has these sets of cards? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Usually the substitute knows who he is replacing, the assistant or fourth official will just ask him and use the name he gives you to call the player off. It isn't rocket science...
